Problems with the IRS update / Recupdater.
This article is for IT to help sort problems that recorders may have when downloading/Applying IRS updates.
I have seen the Recupdater system not work correctly on certain laptops. What happens is that the user has clicked through each stage successfully until the button says "Install XXX" (XXX is the system name like IRS, Claims etc). once the user presses the Install the system just hangs (from previous experimentation the hanging can take hours).
If you are asked to look at a laptop where the updating has not gone sucessfully and is stalled in the "Install" phase, then open task manager and look for the following running processes (these are all self extracting Zip files):
subupdater.exe
irs.exe
claims.exe
These 3 are part of the Recorder release on Jul 2016, thats 3 times the insall button must be clicked. the icon on these will be a zip icon.
In Task manager find the running process matching the install you are doing and you will have to end that process, what should happen now is that the Recupdater will move on to the next install file. (and you may need to kill the subsequent process as well)
General Info:
the recupdater Downloads files to the folder:
C:\ifac1\zippeddownloads\
the files downloaded are all self extracting zips which will extract the contents of the zip into the following folder:
c:\ifac1\zippeddownloads\tmp\
The files can be manually copied from this folder to the IFAC 1 folder, ensure that you are not overwriting newer files
the RecUpdater program stores previous versions of files in the folder:
C:\ifac1\PrevVer\
The recupdater can restore previous versions.
